To us, the pen is one of the most basic and common tools, it is also a tool built over tens of concepts intertwined together. This includes the concepts of communication, expression, language, reading, archiving, memory, chemistry, maybe more that I missed. That person wouldn't fully understand what the pen is without understanding first understanding all those complex concepts.
