# [[Mothers Raise, Men Lead]] #Society #History #Values #Philosophy #Gender #Parenting #Culture Hot take .. bear for a minute with my generalizations. Exceptions exist, but I am looking at the big picture, not the exceptions. If you believe in most history, there is no running away from the fact that, for the majority of human history, leaders of societies were men. This applies to all cultures, belief systems, ideologies. (Reminder: I'm not looking into exceptions). It seems to be natural that it is the men's job to lead their groups. -- BUT... what do those men have? **Mothers**. (I can also say wives and sisters, but that is much less generalizable). Mothers raise their children, boys and girls, with the values that they inherited over generations. Without mothers (and a healthy growing-up environment), potential leaders can't become good leaders. A mother's job is exactly as critical as that of the men (and women) she raises. Arguably even more critical. Think of mothers as the coaches to a sports team. Or the advisors to a president. The relationship is symbiotic. Neither can function properly without the other, and neither can replace the other. -- Can women also be leaders? Of course they can, we have seen plenty. Can well-raised men turn out to be terrible leaders? Of course. (PS-leadership isn't just political. Fathers are leaders, managers are leaders, big brothers are leaders.) Can boys with a troubled upbringing become good leaders? Of course, I'm sure many have. But again, I'm not looking into exceptions. -- Roles are integral to the wellbeing of every system. Some individuals can choose to break free from those roles. That's fine. I'm not in any way against individual freedom. Individual freedom, however, should NOT be evangelized. Every sociopolitical ideology built on the very concept of 'breaking free' will bring its adopters to their demise, sooner or later. -- Please don't scream "patriarchist" 🙃 Every idea can have a positive manifestation, and a negative manifestation.
